Red carpet hair trends 2012

Pull off a red carpet-inspired look for that special event this season. If you're ready to change up your hairstyle for the New Year, turn to Fashion Week and celebrities for a red carpet-inspired look. Red carpet looks in the New Year include sleek and glossy styles, loose chignons, and wavy layers. Whether you're getting all dolled up for date night or just want to show off your stylish side at a special event, take your cue from your favorite celeb to create a head-turning look. Many of these looks are easy to pull off at home with some basic styling products so you don't even need to make that trip to the salon!
Here are five red carpet looks even you can pull off this season:
#1: Slicked Back Ponytail
If you like to wear your hair up, say "no" to volume and go for a sleek, slicked back look instead. A super-tight ponytail will draw attention to your face and really put more emphasis on the eyes. This is a great look for one-shoulder or strapless dresses. It will help to elongate your face and upper body, and also accentuate your cheekbones.
Get the look by: Using a leave-in conditioner to smooth out flyaways and pulling hair taut and tight. Use a thin comb to create a very clean line and sculpt hair smooth with a styling gel.
#2: Brigitte Bardot-Inspired Hair
Wear your hair half up with loose waves and a Brigitte Bardot bouffant-style look. The more modern version is very simple and sleek, with only a few strands framing the face. The "classic" look has more volume and you can let a few extra tendrils of hair hang down on either side to soften the look.
Get the look by: Using a volumizing mousse to create more volume on the top of the head, then blow dry upward to boost volume. Pull half the hair up in a loose ponytail and clip in place. Pull a few strands around your face.
#3: Relaxed Chignon
Another top choice for those who like to wear their hair up, this is a simple but chic look for medium-length and wavy hair. The relaxed chignon is a pretty, fuss-free look that you can pull off by day and night.
Get the look by: Using styling gel or sculpting mousse to hair before styling to really define the curls and waves in your hair. Pull hair up and secure in a loose bun. Use a wide-toothed comb to comb back hair on the top of the head.
#4: Half-Up Braided Hairstyle
Sported by many-a-celebrity on the red carpet last year, this sweet and romantic style is great for weddings and other celebrations where you want a more feminine look. Just make sure to create very tight braids and secure them in in place with stylish clips.
Get the look by: Using a styling gel to sculpt about two inches of hair on either side of your head smooth, then style into tight, neat braids. Secure the braids to the back of your head with clips, then use a wide-barreled curling iron to create light waves on the rest of your hair.
#5: Deep Side Part Ponytail or Bun
If you're looking for a super-chic and elegant look for that special event, plan on wearing your hair in a tight ponytail or bun with a deep side part. This is a classic look that never goes out of style, and you can be creative with how the hair falls around the front of your face.
Get the look by: Using a smoothing serum all through your hair to tame flyaways. Part the hair so that the part is lined up right in the middle of one eye. Pull hair back tightly in a ponytail or wrap it in a bun. Let a few strands loose on one side for a softer effect.
