Pampering men at the spa: A top trend for 2013

Men's Spa Treatments on the Rise

While typically a day of spa-ing was more female focused, new trends are showing that men want in on the action. Spa Finder Wellness' annual Spa and Wellness Report has named men's spa treatments as one of the top trends to watch in 2013.

Here's a look at some of the spas that are offering spa treatments that are strictly for dudes.
The Dolder Grand in Zurich is helping men travelers relax with the Gentleman's Spa World package. Available through December 2013, men enjoy a two-night stay at the Dolder Grand, a martini cocktail at the bar, three-course dinner at the Garden Restaurant and three spa treatments at the resort's spa. The package includes the Facial 60-minute Les Hommes by Kerstin Florian, the 60-minute Detoxifying Back Treatment by La Prairie and a 60-minute personal training session, which includes indoor and outdoor activities from biking to jogging.

The Lodge at Doonbeg in Ireland is offering the Pre Golf Massage at the White Horses Spa. The package is focused on specific areas used during a round of golf to avoid injury while playing. For those that prefer to relax after golf, men can try the Elemis for Him Facial which is a booster for tired, stressed skin.

The Spa at Omni Mount Washington Resort offers a variety of treatments for men, including the Golfer's/Skier's Massage, which features trigger-point therapy, deep tissue massage and assisted stretching targeting major muscle groups used in a golf swing or hitting the slopes. The spa also offers a Gentlemen's Facial which uses products created with consideration for men's skin exposed to shaving and outdoor sporst.

The Seagate Hotel & Spa in Delray Beach, Florida is offering two facial treatments designed exclusively for men: The Men's Skin IQ Facial is the ultimate overhaul for male skin, helping to calm irritation, minimize the signs of aging and protect against the effects of shaving and environmental damage. The Men's Urban Cleanse Facial is a 50-minute, super-grooming facial that works to help eliminate blocked pores, accelerate skin repair and remove impurities.

After a round of golf at one of eight championship golf courses surrounding The Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa, guests can relax at the Sawgrass Spa offering a variety of treatments just for men. The 50 or 80-minute Sports Massage nourishes ligaments and joints while relieving muscular tension, pain and discomfort. An herbal remedy of arnica, eucalyptus and menthol is used to penetrate deep into tight areas while assisted stretching and deep compressions aid in muscle recovery. Men can also book treatments like Foot Reflexology to help improve circulation while promoting balance and full body wellness.

After a long day of golfing at the Golden Eagle Golf Course, the Tides Inn spa is helping men to recuperate with the Chesapeake Golfers Recovery Package. The two-hour journey allows men to choose either a massage with heat therapy and arnica lotion to improve circulation and aid muscle recovery or a facial that will leave him feeling relaxed and restored. After their treatment of choice, men can enjoy a 60-minute pedicure to relax their feet after a long day of golfing.

Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa in Moab, Utah offers men a deep tissue massage specifically targeting the muscle groups affected from an extreme mountain biking adventure. To refresh aching muscles from biking, spa therapists at Sorrel River Ranch will pay extra attention to the areas involved including the primary leg muscles (Hamstrings, Quadriceps, Semitendinosus), Buttocks (Gluteus Maximus) as well as supporting arm muscles (Biceps & Triceps).

The new Marti Istanbul Hotel offers a therapeutic Sports Massage that uses firm pressure to relieve muscle tension and promote flexibility. The 40 or 60 minute massage also aids the healing process for muscle, tendon and spinal injuries. The 9,100-square foot Marti Wellness by SpaSoul offers a broad range of rejuvenating therapies inspired by the Turkish spa tradition including hammams, steam rooms and saunas.

For a formal event or a special occasion, a chic updo hairstyle that oozes glamor and sophistication is always a great option to consider and there are quite a few updos among the 2013 Grammys hairstyles. Proving the look's versatility at the 2013 Grammy Awards were style icons Alexa Chung who opted for a loose updo and Taylor Swift who chose a lovely braided updo that extended from the back around the head with a lovely thin milkmaid braid.

On the opposite side, Florence Welch, Ashanti, Kelly Rowland and Adele chose the classic path to style opting for classic glam updos, so explore your options and select a stylish refined and grown-up 'do that reflects your personality!

A look that never fails to deliver the right result relies on the juxtaposition of naturalness with glamor and celebs took advantage of the benefits this part glam, part bohemian hairstyle brings and rocked loose locks styled both straight and curly on the red carpet, proving once again that sometimes simplicity beats sophistication.

Rocking the laid-back meets glamor look were singers Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry - who went for glossy glam loose curls and Jessica Biel who accompanied her hubby Justin Timberlake wearing her blunt bangs hairstyle sleek straight and glossy!

This easy-wear hairstyle trend has expanded from the sidewalk to the catwalk and now the red carpet as if styled on glossy, sleek straight hair, everyday hairstyles can look jaw-dropping, just take a peek at Beyonce's low and simple ponytail created on sleek straight, center parted hair and Jennifer Lopez's luscious top knot!

The best thing about these hairstyles? They don't require high styling abilities and are far from being time consuming, so when in doubt or in need for a 10 minute hairstyle that looks hot, go for the ponytail or the top knot, depending on what you feel it suits your mood at the time!

Rachel Zoe Opening a Hair Salon

Elizabeth Lippman for DreamDry
DreamDry.

The hairstyling market just got a little hotter. The celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, 41, having leveraged her personal brand into designing clothing and promoting lipstick, is scheduled to open DreamDry, a blowout and hairstyle salon, on Feb. 14 at 35 West 21st Street, mere blocks from similar ventures called Blow and Drybar.

Ms. Zoe and her business partner Robin Moraetes are adding a few twists: a loyalty program and a DreamDry Dossier to track customers’ loyalty points and style history.

Each client will be given an iPad to peruse the salon’s latest style offerings. At the end of each session, her look will be photographed and put in the iPad for future reference. Checkout from the chair is also offered.

No stranger to starlet styles, Ms. Zoe will update the menu with the most recent Hollywood trends, in addition to offering classics like the Audrey (a simple up-do) and the Farrah (soft, loose waves). Blowouts will cost $40, while dry hairstyling (braids and chignons) ranges from $20 to $30.

“The styles at DreamDry are inspired by my personal muses and fashion icons,” Ms. Zoe said in a statement. “DreamDry is all about making glamorous hair an everyday reality.”

The 2,600-square-foot space, decorated in black, gold and silver, will feature 17 chairs, a V.I.P. area and long hours: from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Appointments can be made online or at (212) 886-5194.

(Replay) HAA Radio Show Sylvia Lafair

Sylvia Lafair
Sylvia Lafair, Ph.D. is President of Creative Energy Options, Inc. (CEO), a global consulting company that targets and transforms workplace patterns for success. Dr. Lafair’s programs and executive coaching impact individuals and
teams to decrease conflict and increase productivity. Her award winning book, “Don’t Bring It to Work” 2009 (Jossey-Bass), is listed as one of the top 20 books for emerging leaders. Lafair's research shows that, much as we like to believe that our behavior is entirely rational and governed by our conscious mind, our thoughts and actions are often driven by the roles we learned in our families as children. And under pressure, we tend to revert to old patterns, often creating workplace drama that diverts attention from the business and undermines productivity.
As a keynote speaker, workshop leader and webinar presenter, Sylvia engages audiences with her natural storytelling ability. She weaves her knowledge about personal relationships and business culture into easily understood messages, using both humor and suspense that leave audiences with information to take back to the office and immediately put into practice. Dr. Lafair has been quoted in Time.com, Fortune, Forbes, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal and has been a guest on various television and radio programs. Her new book, “GUTSY: How Women Leaders Make Change,” was released in June 2012. She is presently working on a book about diversity in the workplace titled “Different: How Dynamic Leaders Drive Diversity at Work”.
As a noted authority on leadership, an award winning author, and executive coach, her message is unique and timely; her insights universal and relevant. Office drama and politics, human resource issues, absenteeism, and litigation often increase when stress is high in companies. This is where Dr. Lafair’s unique model becomes vitally important as she teaches managers and teams how to transform ingrained patterns that get in the way of effective collaboration and organizational productivity.
