The ultimate big hair day: Models show off fantasy fashion with ships, castles and 'dos that blow bubbles

HNN came across this article and had to share with all of you that have a yen for Fantasy Hair Competitions. Although this competition is from April 2010, we did not have our blog at that time, and if you did observe it at the time it was originally presented, we think you will find it an enjoyable revisit. This is Fantasy Hair at it's artsiest!

"When organizers dubbed it the Fantasy Hair Competition, they really weren't joking.
Piled high on the models' heads, sculpted into weird shapes and then topped off with ships, parrots and flags, these extraordinary creations are the result of hours of intricate work."

Get away: Danielle Baker shows off another creation complete with sun, sea and treasure chest at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire

One of the designs on show at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire, even blows bubbles.
The hair 'art' is fashioned from miles of extensions, chicken wire, flowers, curling irons and flashing lights.

Contestants from top salons across the US arrived at 9am yesterday and worked solidly until 7pm when the results went on display.

Showstopper: Destiny Nquyen's head was completely transformed by a series of brightly coloured fans

This year's theme was 'ports of call' around the world and the exotic flavour can be seen in the fantastically exotic hairstyles and costumes.
The charity event was organised by The New Hampshire Food Bank with a $7,000 prize for the winner.
Entries were judged on creativity, over-all appearance and the model's presentation on stage.
